It’s a huge psychological benefit for everyone to see our influential midfielder back bossing the centre of the park. Only Essien has contributed with goals from Midfield this season and whilst the goals have dried up from our front three, we could have had 4-6 more points if Lampard had been fit.
United were going to be without arguably their most influential player, no not John O’Shea, Paul Scholes. When Scholes is in the team United are a better side, fact. Although his tackling may let him down, he can cut up open even the best defence in the premier league.
This was evident from watching last Monday’s dull United win; they lacked ideas and creativity and certainly missed Scholes. Although United were solid at the back, they were restricted to only long range shots at a keeper making his premiership debut.
Seeing that Chelsea have taken the most points off Manchester United out of any side in Premier League history and the fact Rooney is out of sorts, no Scholes and surely our ‘bad patch’ couldn’t get any worse.
A lot of people had Chelsea nailed down for the win. I certainly did.
