Teenage Stopper Dyk Set To Join Chelsea

Reports in Poland this week suggest that 16 year-old goalkeeper Dominik Dyk is close to sealing a move to Chelsea, perhaps as early as this week.

Przeglad Sportowy revealed that the youngster arrived in England on Sunday and will put pen to paper on a scholarship deal on Thursday. The deal has been struck involving famed ‘super agent’ Pini Zahavi.

Dyk has been playing competitive adult football since the age of 14 (having apparently been something of a talented boxer as a youth) and has recently interested the likes of Legia Warsaw and Villarreal, but Chelsea have moved to the head of the pack to secure the signature of the highly-rated stopper.

He began his career at Moravia Morawica before joining KSZO Ostrowiec in the summer, keeping a clean sheet on his pro debut.

He will join Mitchell Beeney and Ben Killip as youth team eligible for the 2012-13 season, as both current schoolboys have been offered scholarships, but with both Rhys Taylor and Sam Walker out of contract next summer, Jamal Blackman will be the sole reserve team goalkeeper.

Opportunities will arise for one of the trio to take an early step towards the next level, one which will be of particular intrigue next season with the apparent introduction of an ‘Under-21 Development League’ under the new Elite Player Performance Plan, which was voted through earlier this year.

Chelsea have not been shy in seeking another young goalkeeper to add to their books, with German Alexander Rehberg and Slovakian Martin Junas both having spent time on trial at Cobham in the last twelve months.

However, they appear to have found their man in Dyk, who turned 16 on December 1st, and will move to England in time to begin training full-time with his fellow scholars in March 2012.

More on this story as it develops.
