Under-21s: Sutton United 0-4 Chelsea

Chelsea’s Under-21s continued their unbeaten pre-season to date with a comfortable win over Sutton United on Tuesday night.

Dermot Drummy continued to rotate his squad with a fortnight or so left until the league season gets underway and used a total of 21 players on a warm evening at Gander Green Lane. Alex Kiwomya opened the scoring shortly before half time, whilst the lead was doubled around the hour mark courtesy of Isaiah Brown’s first goal for the club.

Ulises Dávila and John Swift added late gloss to the scoreline with additional tallies and there might have been more too, with Jeremie Boga forcing a fine save and Brown having a second ruled out for offside.

There was a debut for Chilean winger Cristian Cuevas, who had rubber-stamped his move from O’Higgins earlier in the day, and he impressed in spells, twice going close to a debut goal.

Jack Powell, a midfielder replaced by West Ham at the end of last season, got 45 minutes in the second half and having spent the entire summer with the club is presumed to have become a permanent squad member.

Some of the group will doubtless depart on loan before the big kickoff against Tottenham Hotspur at Aldershot on August 9th but the group will likely remain together for the trip to Colwyn Bay this weekend, where Frank Sinclair and friends are the opposition.
