After a meeting between Chelsea officials and Gael Kakuta this week, it seems there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
The 19 year-old French winger, who is out of contract next summer, arrived back in London on Thursday for talks over a new deal, cutting short his international break.
Reports in France this morning (emanating from L’Equipe) suggest that those talks lasted four hours and were ‘fruitful’, but there is still work to be done before things are signed and sealed.
The offer on the table is a four-year deal, which would keep Kakuta at Stamford Bridge until 2015, but his concerns about playing time persist.
However, they are not thought to be concerns enough to prevent him from staying, and the belief across the Channel is that an announcement may happen as early as next week.
As usual, take that with an amount of salt – but this appears to be good news. More as it breaks.
