There are even more goals from the Championship in this week’s edition of the Loan Report as young, English hopefuls continue to make headlines. With the transfer window also closing in most countries on Friday, we’ll also cover the last-minute deals that took the Loan Army up to a record-breaking 40.
Headliners
Before the flurry of Friday deals, however, there was a midweek round of League Cup action for our young prospects to negotiate, and both Kasey Palmer and Mason Mount took the opportunity to enhance their growing reputations. Palmer scored a delightful free-kick in Blackburn’s 4-1 win at home to Lincoln City, whilst Mount showed off his technical skill and composure with a well-taken goal to cap Derby’s 4-0 win at Hull.

Derby were back at Hull in league action on Saturday and, while Mount didn’t score, Todd Kane did. It wasn’t enough to secure victory though, as Mount and Fikayo Tomori capped a week in which they were both named in the England Under-21 squad with a fourth straight victory.
England
Premier League
Kurt Zouma had some promising moments in his first start for Everton, a 1-1 draw at home to Huddersfield Town, while Kenedy played a part in Newcastle’s only goal in a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City after a poor performance in the midweek cup defeat to Nottingham Forest. As is Kenedy’s way, the good came with the bad, and he’s yet to find the sort of consistency that would earn him a future at Stamford Bridge.
Championship
Tomas Kalas was in good form on Sunday to help Bristol City to a 4-1 win over Palmer’s Blackburn at Ashton Gate. As he did on debut, he made an important goal-line clearance, and has quickly asserted himself as first-choice at the back for the Robins. Jay Dasilva, however, was an unused substitute.

Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman played all of Leeds’ League Cup exit at home to Preston in midweek, before returning the bench for Friday night’s goalless draw at home to Middlesbrough, and they were joined at Elland Road by Izzy Brown, who will spend the rest of the season on loan in the Championship for the third time. Not expected to be fully fit to play until October, as he completes his rehabilitation from a torn ACL in January, he will provide depth as Marcelo Bielsa’s side mount a promotion challenge.
Reece James was outstanding again for Wigan in a 1-0 win at home to Rotherham. Still only 18, he’s taken to life in the second tier better than even the most optimistic followers of his progress could have hoped for.

Trevoh Chalobah made an impact as a second-half substitute as Ipswich Town shared a 1-1 draw with rivals Norwich on Sunday, but there was no time for involvement for either Tammy Abraham at Aston Villa, nor Michael Hector at Sheffield Wednesday following their deadline-day deals completed less than 24 hours before kick-off.
League One
Charlie Colkett’s struggles for regular action continued in the league this week, and he only played for four minutes for Shrewsbury against Manchester City’s Under-23s in the Checkatrade Trophy in midweek, but scored the clinching penalty in the post-draw shootout.
Brad Collins joined Burton Albion until the end of 2018 in an emergency deal following an injury to the Brewers’ first-choice stopper Stephen Bywater, and he was quickly able to celebrate a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Wimbledon on his debut.
Iké Ugbo made his Scunthorpe debut with seven minutes as a substitute in their 1-1 draw away to Accrington, but Dujon Sterling missed his second consecutive match for Coventry through injury.
League Two
Nathan Baxter and Yeovil continue to go from strength to strength as they made it four clean sheets in a row with a 1-0 win away to Grimsby on Saturday. Having shut out the opposition seven times at Woking last season, he’s more than halfway to beating that mark already this season, and we’re only two days into September.
Jacob Maddox was rested by caretaker manager Russell Milton for their League Cup exit at Brentford on Tuesday, citing the number of minutes the young midfielder had already played this season, but he was straight back in for a full match on Saturday as they lost 3-1 to Colchester.
Netherlands
Vitesse’s recent good record against Ajax came to a grinding halt on Sunday as they were hammered 4-0 at the Gelredome. Eduardo and Jake Clarke-Salter played every minute but nobody in black and yellow was remotely impressive on the day.
Charly Musonda will be joining them in Arnhem after the international break after agreeing a late move on deadline day. The Belgian had previously rejected a move there twice in recent years but, approaching his 22nd birthday with just 40 senior appearances to his name, he recognises that now is the time to get his career back on track.

Fankaty Dabo will also be going back to the Netherlands and will spend the season with Sparta Rotterdam, reuniting him with Henk Fraser, his manager at Vitesse in 2017-18.
Kyle Scott made his first competitive start for Telstar as they beat Utrecht 2-0; the American youth international played 83 minutes, and provided the cross from which the penalty for the opening goal was won.
Germany
Baba Rahman started for Schalke and played 73 minutes of their 2-0 defeat to Hertha Berlin.
Spain
Michy Batshuayi is still limited to substitute appearances for Valencia and played just 22 minutes of their 2-2 draw at Levante in sweltering Sunday-morning conditions.
Morbid interest in Levante vs Valencia (kick off in 5min). Let's see who faints first. 32 degrees and 92% humidity as we speak

Kenneth Omeruo was an unused substitute in Leganés’ 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid, Joao Rodriguez played 67 minutes as he made his Tenerife debut in a 2-2 draw with recently-relegated Deportivo La Coruna, and Josimar Quintero was an unused substitute for Lleida’s draw with Espanyol B.
Italy
Mario Pašalić’s hopes of playing Europa League football this season were extinguished on Thursday night as Atalanta were unable to score away to FC Copenhagen, going out on away goals after a goalless draw in the second leg. He got 72 more uneventful minutes on Sunday at home to Cagliari.
Ola Aina made his first start for Torino at home to SPAL, following an injury to Cristian Ansaldi last week, but it was an eventful match that was put on hold for almost an hour as torrential rain fell on the Stadio Olimpico. He eventually completed 86 minutes and continues to look at home in Serie A.

Tiemoue Bakayoko was an unused substitute as Milan beat Roma 2-1 on Satuday night.
France
Matt Miazga was largely impressive in Nantes’ 3-2 win at Strasbourg, as was Victorien Angban in Metz’s 2-0 triumph over Lens in Ligue 2.
Belgium
He wasn’t involved this weekend, but Kylian Hazard will play for Cercle Brugge in the Belgian top flight this season, after agreeing a new contract at Chelsea and heading out on loan back to his homeland.

Scotland
Ruben Sammut completed his first ninety minutes this season for Falkirk as the Bairns lost 2-0 to Ross County on Saturday.
Serbia
Like Pašalić, Danilo Pantic and Partizan Belgrade were eliminated from the Europa League after losing 3-0 at Besiktas on Thursday. As a key member of the squad nowadays, he played from start to finish again versus Backa Backa Palanka on Sunday, and helped them to a 1-0 win.
Brazil
Nathan was an unused substitute on Sunday as Atlético-MG drew 1-1 at Corinthians.
