The Loan Report: October 9-15

The Loan Report returns from the October international hiatus with a brace of goals for Tammy Abraham, who continues to trend upwards in his maiden Premier League campaign.

Headliners

As noted during the last Loan Report, Swansea were generally producing good quality scoring chances, but they weren’t producing many of them. Abraham was responsible for two of their three league goals (with another effort coming in the League Cup) and, at home to Huddersfield Town on Saturday, he doubled that tally with both goals in a 2-0 Swans victory.

It places him behind only Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Jamie Vardy in goals scored by Englishmen in the top flight so far in 2017-18, and strengthens his position in aiming for a place in the England World Cup squad next summer.

Elsewhere, Joao Rodriguez scored his first goal for Mexican second tier side Tampico Madero as he pounced on some poor defending to secure a 2-0 win away to Venados.

England

Premier League

Kasey Palmer was absent from that Huddersfield defeat at Swindon, with manager David Wagner indicating that he should be back in 3-4 weeks, whilst Ruben Loftus-Cheek was prohibited from playing against his parent club as Crystal Palace beat Chelsea, but Izzy Brown did get off the bench for Brighton late in their 1-1 draw at home to Everton.

Kurt Zouma, however, had an afternoon to forget as he and Stoke were taken apart 7-2 by Manchester City

Championship

Jamal Blackman’s impressive stay at Sheffield United continued on Saturday, as he put in another convincing display in the Blades’ 1-0 win over Ipswich Town, a result that keeps them third in the table. It was his fifth clean sheet in twelve appearances.

Michael Hector and Ola Aina – the latter now a full Nigerian international after making his debut last weekend – played the full ninety mintues as Hull drew 1-1 away to Norwich City. Fikayo Tomori played the last five minutes.

Tomas Kalas, meanwhile, played another full match as Fulham staged a late comeback to draw 2-2 with Preston.

Lewis Baker and Iké Ugbo were unused substitutes as Middlesbrough drew at Barnsley, whilst Jeremie Boga was curiously omitted from Birmingham’s squad entirely in Steve Cotterill’s first match as manager.

League One

Charlton remain in strong promotion contention after they beat Doncaster Rovers 1-0 on Saturday; Jay Dasilva played 80 minutes, Jordan Houghton played 90, and both were booked.

League Two

Forest Green Rovers continued with Sam Russell in goal ahead of Brad Collins, but were beaten 4-0 by Newport County, once again displaying the fact that the worst defence in the country has little to do with the performances of their goalkeeper.

Charlie Wakefield has still not returned to full fitness for Chelsea’s Development Squad, and so is yet to link up with Stevenage.

Non-League

Nathan Baxter and Woking drew 1-1 with Concord Rangers in the FA Cup, but there was also plenty more positive press for the young goalkeeper this week, as he has fast become an important part of a rejuvenated Cards team looking to push for promotion.

Jared Thompson, who spent some time with Brentford’s B Team during the international window, kept a clean sheet and earned the Man of the Match award as Chippenham Town drew 0-0 with Wealdstone.

Netherlands

Fankaty Dabo and Matt Miazga played 90 minutes as Vitesse drew 1-1 away to Heracles, whilst Mason Mount saw half an hour from the bench, and Charlie Colkett four minutes at the very end of the contest.

Marco van Ginkel captained PSV to a 5-2 win away to VVV that kept them five points clear at the top of the table, but Todd Kane remains sidelined through injury over at Groningen. Cristian Cuevas did play a full match as FC Twente lost 3-1 at Willem II.

Belgium

Victorien Angban played 77 minutes as Waasland-Beveren lost 2-0 away to Gent.

France

Nathan was not involved for Amiens away to Toulouse as he gets over a recent knock.

Russia

Mario Pašalić only played the last four minutes of Spartak Moscow’s 2-1 win at Akhmat on Friday as Massimo Carrera plans for this week’s Champions League action.

Josimar Quintero was, as usual, an unused substitute for FC Rostov.

Turkey

Kenneth Omeruo and Kasimpasa were beaten 3-2 at home by Sivasspor on Sunday.

Serbia

Danilo Pantic played a full 90 minutes as Partizan beat Radnik 2-0 to remain second in the Serbian Super Liga
