A bunch of goals were scored over the past seven days to give us plenty to talk about in the latest Loan Report, so let’s dive right in.
Headliners
Starting a little under a full week ago, we begin in Mexico, where Joao Rodriguez has been on a scoring tear for Tampico Madero as Los Jaibos mounted a surprising promotion challenge. A goal against Mineros secured a Playoff Quarter Final berth against Juárez, and a goal in the first leg there looked to have helped their cause, but unfortunately they were to lose out 5-4 on aggregate. Joao’s stay in Mexico is due to end on December 31st, and his campaign finishes with 6 goals in 11 games, but it would not be a surprise at all to see him seek an extended stay at the first club where he’s experienced a positive stay in professional football.
In Monday night Premier League action, Kurt Zouma found the back of the net for the first time in a Stoke City shirt en route to securing a 2-2 draw away to Izzy Brown’s Brighton.
Zouma then squared off against Ruben Loftus-Cheek on Saturday, but was this time on the receiving end of a loanee goal as Loftus-Cheek netted the equaliser in a huge 2-1 win for Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Another clash of loanees went down at Bramall Lane later on Saturday afternoon as Jamal Blackman’s Sheffield United hosted Jeremie Boga’s Birmingham City, and it was the latter who made the most significant impact. Taking advantage of a rare start, he gave the Blues a first-half lead with a spectacular long-range effort.
It hadn’t been the best week for Blackman, who was involved as the Blades lost 5-4 at home to Tomas Kalas’ Fulham in midweek, but at least it finished better for Boga after he was an unused substitute on Wednesday in a 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough, where Lewis Baker continues to bafflingly be omitted from the entire selection process.
Kalas, meanwhile, helped Fulham win 1-0 over Millwall on Saturday.
Late on Sunday, Matt Miazga netted as Vitesse beat ADO Den Haag 2-0 in the Eredivisie.
Not to be outdone, Kenneth Omeruo’s stoppage-time winner gave Kasimpasa a 2-1 win over Konyaspor. It was the Nigerian’s first goal since February and just the fourth of his seven-year professional career.

England
Premier League
Tammy Abraham played just six minutes of Swansea’s goalless draw at home to Bournemouth after suffering a back injury last weekend, whilst Izzy Brown got a two-minute cameo for Brighton away to Manchester United. Kasey Palmer, more positively, is set to return to the Huddersfield first-team squad this coming week.
Championship
There may be trouble at at Hull, where despite Ola Aina, Fikayo Tomori and Michael Hector all playing 90 minutes and securing a clean sheet in a goalless draw at Millwall on Tuesday, a 3-2 defeat at home to Bristol City on Saturday leaves manager Leonid Slutskiy under increasing pressure.
All three loanees were once again involved from start to finish but, with Hull losing having led 2-0 with twenty minutes to go, a change at the top could come sooner rather than later, potentially leaving the Chelsea trio in short-term limbo.
Iké Ugbo played the full second half as Barnsley lost 2-0 at home to Leeds following no involvement in the midweek defeat to Cardiff.
League One
Jay Dasilva played 83 minutes of Charlton’s 2-1 win over Rochdale, notching an assist, and then another 90 in a more advanced role in a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Scunthorpe four days later.
Jordan Houghton got ninety minutes as Doncaster were beaten 3-0 at League One leaders Wigan, but bounced back well with 65 minutes in a 2-1 win at home to MK Dons at the weekend.
League Two
Brad Collins kept goal for Forest Green Rovers in a 3-2 defeat at Chesterfield and in a 1-1 draw at home to Cheltenham.
Non-League
Nathan Baxter missed both of Woking’s matches this week due to injury. He was able to take his place as a substitute, but wasn’t risked, and has been good enough to be restored to the starting position once he’s 100% fit again.
Jared Thompson and Chippenham Town were beaten 2-1 at Whitehawk.
Netherlands
If Mason Mount had already had his coming out party at Vitesse, this week served notice that he’s very much here to stay, after he put in starring performances against Lazio and ADO Den Haag in the space of four days.
The Europa League trip to Lazio was something of a dead rubber, with Lazio already assured of qualification from the group, and Vitesse all but eliminated, but Mount didn’t let that bother him as he produced a record-breaking display in the 1-1 draw.

It was enough to earn him a place in the starting eleven in the Eredivisie for the first time on Sunday, where he joined Miazga and the returning Fankaty Dabo, who was rested for the jaunt to Rome. He was a one-man wrecking crew as the game went on, hitting the woodwork, drawing a remarkable save to keep out a fierce volley, and winning a free kick as two ADO Den Haag defenders couldn’t handle him.
It was, however, his 87th-minute corner that finally unlocked the door, as Miazga (see the Headliners section) rose highest to guide a header in and secure a much-needed three points, with Bryan Linssen adding a second for insurance right at the very end. Charlie Colkett was an unused substitute.
PSV won 2-1 at Excelsior with captain Marco van Ginkel on the pitch throughout, but Todd Kane and Groningen lost 2-0 to defending champions Feyenoord, with the right back getting 73 minutes.
Cristian Cuevas played ninety minutes as a left wing-back as Twente lost 2-0 to AZ on Friday night.
Belgium
Victorien Angban was substituted at the very end of Waasland-Beveren’s 2-0 defeat at home to Charleroi.
France
Nathan was not involved as Amiens won 2-0 at Metz.
Russia
Mario Pašalić played 53 minutes of Spartak Moscow’s 1-1 draw against Maribor in the Champions League, and will hope to retain his place in the starting eleven for Monday’s big match against Zenit St Petersburg in the Russian Premier League.
Josimar Quintero was not involved for FC Rostov.
Serbia
Danilo Pantic played 82 minutes of Partizan’s 2-1 win over Young Boys in the Europa League, a result that almost secured their place in the knockout stages, and then started again in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Spartak Subotica.
