The Loan Report: November 5-11

The Loan Army returned to some semblance of normalcy this week, with plenty of players continuing to tick over nicely, a handful missing for various reasons, and Tammy Abraham scoring another goal.

Headliners

Abraham scored his fifth goal of the season for Aston Villa and did so against Fikayo Tomori, Frank Lampard, Jody Morris and Derby County. He and Assistant Manager John Terry claimed the bragging rights in a Chelsea-infused fixture as Villa came away from Pride Park with a 3-0 win that lifted them into the top half of the table.

Mason Mount was absent with a minor foot injury that also saw him miss out on another England call-up this week. He’s expected to be fit to return after the international break.

England

Premier League

Kenedy was in top form for a rejuvenated Newcastle United and provided an assist in their 2-1 win over Bournemouth.

Kurt Zouma was forced to miss Everton’s 0-0 draw at Chelsea owing to Premier League rules preventing loanees from playing against their parent clubs.

Championship

Michael Hector was restored to the Sheffield Wednesday team for their local derby away to rivals United and was important in a much-improved defensive display that saw them take a share of the spoils in a 0-0 draw.

Reece James had perhaps his hardest match in a Wigan shirt to date as he and his team-mates struggled in a 2-0 defeat to a very hard-to-beat Middlesbrough team, while Tomas Kalas and Jay Dasilva both had up and down days as Bristol City lost at home to Preston.

Trevoh Chalobah showed signs of promise back in midfield for Ipswich, who drew 2-2 at Reading, and Kasey Palmer was well involved from start to finish as Blackburn shared a 1-1 draw with Rotherham.

Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman were unused substitutes as Leeds were beaten 4-1 at West Brom, leading to some fans calling for Blackman to get a chance ahead of incumbent goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, and Todd Kane played just the final ten minutes as Hull went to Birmingham City and drew 3-3.

FA Cup

The rest of the Football League gave way to the First Round Proper of the FA Cup this weekend, with mixed results for Chelsea’s loanees. Jacob Maddox and Cheltenham Town drew 0-0 at non-league Ebbsfleet United, while Iké Ugbo and Scunthorpe got the better of Brad Collins and Burton Albion with a 2-1 win at Glanford Park.

Dujon Sterling missed Coventry’s 3-2 defeat to Walsall with a small injury, but Nathan Baxter and Yeovil had no excuses as they were humbled 3-1 at home to Stockport County. Charlie Colkett played no part for Shrewsbury against Salford.

Spain

Michy Batshuayi’s continued struggles saw him stay an unused substitute for Valencia’s Champions League win at home to Young Boys before then being left out of the squad altogether for the weekend trip to Getafe.

Kenneth Omeruo, on the other hand, is growing with every week and helped Leganés to a goalless draw at Girona, preserving one of the league’s better defensive records despite currently residing in the relegation zone.

Joao Rodriguez made a minimal impact off the bench for Tenerife against Albacete but Josi Quintero was an unused substitute for Lleida.

Netherlands

Eduardo and Jake Clarke-Salter were involved as usual as Vitesse beat Utrecht 2-1 to stay sixth in the Eredivisie standings.

Kyle Scott and Telstar won 2-1 at FC Eindhoven on Friday, and Fankaty Dabo returned from injury to sit on the bench and watch Sparta Rotterdam beat Jong Utrecht 4-2.

Italy

Ola Aina played ninety minutes but ended up on the losing team as Parma won 2-1 at Torino, but the Nigerian defender has certainly impressed during his short time in Turin, and is expected to be the subject of a bid to keep him there permanently in the January transfer window.

Mario Pašalić came off the bench to feature for the last twenty minutes of Atalanta’s 4-1 hammering of Inter, while Tiemoue Bakayoko’s slow return to acceptable form continued with ninety minutes in Milan’s draw at Betis followed by another full outing in the Serie A defeat to Juventus.

France

Matt Miazga has been resigned to playing with Nantes’ reserves until the transfer window opens, but Victorien Angban did at least return to the Metz starting line-up, playing an hour in a 2-1 win at Chateauroux.

Germany

Baba Rahman is no closer to playing again for Schalke, but did find time for a Twitter Q&A this week.

Belgium

Kylian Hazard played all of Cercle Brugge’s 2-0 win over Waasland-Beveren, extending their good form and lifting them into the top half of the table.

Scotland

Ruben Sammut was an unused substitute in Falkirk’s 1-0 win at Dunfermline.

Serbia

Danilo Pantic was taken off with an injury after just half an hour of Partizan’s 2-0 win at home to Radnik.

Brazil

Nathan was an unused substitute in Atlético-MG’s draw at home to Palmeiras.
