Reports emerging out of France today indicate that Gael Kakuta will return to London from international duty to discuss a new contract at Chelsea.
The French Under-20 international featured last night against Montenegro and was due to continue his involvement during a training camp in Clairefontaine to take part in a friendly against Orléans tomorrow.
However, he has been given permission to leave the team camp and head back to England to talk terms with the Blues, and sources indicate that a deal could be close.
The club offered Kakuta a long-term deal back in March but progress has stalled, with rumours of a short-term offer at a lower-than-expected wage on the table as Chelsea seek to further tighten their purse-strings after a year of cutbacks at Stamford Bridge.
At this stage, nothing is confirmed, but signs are pointing towards a positive resolution. More as things develop.
