Chelsea’s young Uruguayan forward Jhon Pirez is set to spend pre-season with Spanish Second Division outfit CE Sabadell.
The 19 year-old forward, who joined the Blues back in 2008, has spent the last few months back at home in Uruguay first playing for the national Under-20 team before joining up with former club Defensor Sporting for the second time since departing.
In his first return spell, he grabbed a maiden senior goal, but unfortunately suffered a serious knee injury which sidelined him for nearly a year.
He recovered to feature for Defensor’s Under-20 team in the junior Copa Libertadores, scoring one goal en route to the Final, which his team lost to River Plate.
Pirez now heads for Spain, and specifically Catalonia, where Sabadell play. The club announced the news on their website and claimed that they maintain a strong relationship with Chelsea, most likely through the very well connected Michael Emenalo.
Sabadell barely avoided relegation last season, merely earning a reprieve due to Villarreal’s relegation from La Liga, which in turn forced their B Team to vacate La Segunda according to competition rules.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on Pirez’ progress, and you can keep up to date throughout the summer here at TheChels.net and on Twitter @chelseayouth.
