The Loan Report: December 23-29

The final Loan Report of 2019 is an abridged one, due to much of Europe still being on a winter hiatus, but there’s still stuff to check up on.

England

Premier League

Danny Drinkwater’s time at Burnley likely came to an end with a pair of matches spent on the substitutes’ bench. His loan at Turf Moor is unlikely to be extended, so the hunt is on for a new home.

Championship

Trevoh Chalobah played every second for Huddersfield in their Christmas schedule; losing 1-0 at Middlesbrough on Boxing Day before helping them to a much-needed 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers three days later.

Conor Gallagher played 52 minutes for Charlton in a big 3-2 win over Bristol City, and now prepares for Tuesday’s trip to Derby County, while Matt Miazga returned from injury to sit on the bench for Reading in a pair of John Swift-inspired triumphs.

Jake Clarke-Salter is back in training for Birmingham after recovering from a dislocated shoulder, but Izzy Brown and Dujon Sterling remain on the sidelines.

League One

Richard Nartey and Burton had mixed experiences over the past week; a 4-2 win over Tranmere Rovers was followed by a 2-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley, accurately summing up a season that has seen them settle in mid-table almost throughout.

Luke McCormick played no part for Shrewsbury and will be leaving the club in the next week or so.

League Two

Josh Grant anchored Plymouth’s midfield in their Boxing Day win at Cheltenham and then again in a 2-1 win over Stevenage on Sunday to lift the Pilgrims into the playoff places.

Scotland

Nathan Baxter’s inspired form couldn’t prevent Ross County from losing 2-1 to Motherwell on Thursday, but a 1-1 draw at St Johnstone three days later saw them finish 2019 on a more positive note.

Turkey

Victor Moses is still out injured.

Brazil

Nathan is still out injured.

Winter Break

Ethan Ampadu, Tiémoué Bakayoko, Lewis Baker, Jamal Blackman, Juan Castillo, Kenedy, Charly Musonda, Danilo Pantic, Mario Pasalic, Lucas Piazon, Iké Ugbo and Davide Zappacosta are all enjoying winter breaks away from their clubs, and will return throughout January.

Ampadu did however have a haircut.
