UEFA competition came up big for the Loan Army this week, as both Mario Pašalić and Kenedy found the back of the net.
Headliners
Pašalić has been especially impressive this season for an Atalanta team that are fast becoming many people’s darlings. Their 3-0 win at Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, a match in which he scored the second goal, saw them make Champions League history in becoming the first team to qualify for the knockout stages having failed to record a win in their first four matches.
It led to a number of Chelsea fans wondering what the chances are that he comes back and challenges for a meaningful place in the squad next season, having now impressed in Spain, France, Italy and the Champions League. As things stand, Atalanta are expected to use their option to sign him permanently for €15m, a move Pašalić would be supportive of.
Things have been a little more comfortable for Getafe in the Europa League, and they too secured their place in the knockout rounds with a 3-0 win, theirs coming at home to Krasnodar on Thursday. Kenedy has found most of his playing time in Europe’s second competition, and came off the bench here for 22 minutes and his second goal of the season.

Covid-19
Several league campaigns were curtailed earlier than expected due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. Numbers for those players are assumed to be as of the formal end of that respective season; whether the stats officially count or not, we will take them as having happened.
