The Loan Report: October 29 – November 3

Every now and then, someone comes along and takes centre stage in the Loan Report without having really made a significant impact earlier in the season. This week, Kenedy does just that, scoring his first goal for Getafe in an otherwise quiet seven days on the Loan Army front.

Headliners

Kenedy has actually had a fairly good time of it in Spain so far; earning regular Europa League minutes to start with and parlaying them into increasing La Liga opportunities. He capitalised yet further on Sunday away to Celta Vigo by finding the back of the net for the first time as a Getafe player.

England

Premier League

Danny Drinkwater is still out for Burnley.

Championship

Izzy Brown came into the weekend as the leading assist maker in the Championship, but lasted just 33 minutes of Luton’s defeat to Nottingham Forest before having to withdraw with a hamstring complaint. It came the week after he pieced together his first back-to-back ninety minutes in more than two years, and manager Graeme Jones was cognisant of that in explaining the situation post-match, while also making it quite clear just how important the Chelsea man is to their cause.

Conor Gallagher played well for Charlton in a home defeat to Preston on Sunday, but there were wins for Matt Miazga (Reading) and Trevoh Chalobah (Huddersfield), the latter coming of the bench to help see out a most impressive victory away to Brentford to take their unbeaten run to seven matches.

Dujon Sterling earned plenty of positive reviews in his third successive start for Wigan, despite a 2-1 defeat at home to Swansea, but Jake Clarke-Salter was an unused substitute for Birmingham City.

League One

Richard Nartey missed Burton’s midweek exit from the League Cup due to a minor hamstring problem, and returned to play the first half of their 2-2 draw at Doncaster on Saturday.

Jacob Maddox and Luke McCormick were unused substitutes.

League Two

Josh Grant played against Chelsea’s Development Squad in midweek as a second-half substitute during Plymouth’s 1-0 defeat in the EFL Trophy. He got around half an hour in a defensive midfield capacity, but had no weekend action, as Argyle’s home date with Grimsby was postponed due to bad weather.

Italy

Mario Pašalić played 69 minutes for Atalanta at Napoli in midweek as his team claimed a decent 2-2 draw in the San Paolo, but they were upset at home to Cagliari on Sunday, a match in which the Croatian scored an unfortunate own goal.

Davide Zappacosta is out for the season.

Spain

Baha Rahman is still out injured for Mallorca.

Germany

After almost three months of waiting, Ethan Ampadu made his RB Leipzig debut his week, playing nearly twenty minutes in a 6-1 German Cup triumph away to Wolfsburg. There was more where that came from too; as RBL hammered Mainz 8-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday, Ampadu played almost all the second half. The club were at pains to point out that it would take until about this time before he started to feature, in order to let him settle in more confidently, and to give him his head against some of the so-called weaker opponents on their fixture list. Having finally made his bow, Chelsea will be hoping there are more opportunities forthcoming before the winter break.

Lewis Baker was twice an unused substitute for Fortuna Dusseldorf.

France

Tiémoué Bakayoko missed out for Monaco this week with an ankle injury.

Netherlands

Iké Ugbo played 78 minutes for Roda in a midweek cup win against Achilles Veen, and is now preparing for a Monday night fixture against Jong PSV.

Juan Castillo and Jong Ajax will also play Monday, at home to Volendam.

Portugal

Lucas Piazon was an unused substitute for Rio Ave against both Moreirense and Benfica.

Scotland

Nathan Baxter is close to a return and a chance to finally play for Ross County, and Chelsea academy goalkeeping coach Christoph Lollichon shared some footage of his unconventional recovery techniques this week.

Turkey

Victor Moses played 64 minutes as Fenerbahce lost 1-0 to Kayserispor.

Hungary

Danilo Pantic played 18 minutes against Tiszaújváros and 59 more versus Zalaegerszeg this week for MOL Fehervar.

Brazil

Nathan played ninety minutes in midweek as Atlético-MG lost to Chapecoense in midweek, and then featured for the first half of their draw at Fortaleza on Saturday.

Covid-19

Several league campaigns were curtailed earlier than expected due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. Numbers for those players are assumed to be as of the formal end of that respective season; whether the stats officially count or not, we will take them as having happened.
