The Loan Report: July 6-12

Another week of Loan Army action is in the books and, while few feathers were ruffled, there’s still much to play for.

England

Premier League

Except if you’re Danny Drinkwater of course. He wasn’t involved in either of Aston Villa’s matches again.

Championship

Marc Guehi and Conor Gallagher continue to impress at Swansea, helping them to a 3-1 midweek win over Jake Clarke-Salter’s Birmingham City, before losing out at the very end of their clash with Leeds on Sunday. They remain a point shy of a playoff place with three matches left.

Clarke-Salter missed Birmingham’s defeat to Stoke on Sunday through injury and the Blues are in real danger of being dragged into a relegation battle they had no business being involved in given their form pre-lockdown. Luton are heavily embroiled in that struggle themselves, and had to make do without the injured Izzy Brown twice this week, but picked up four points including a win over Trevoh Chalobah’s Huddersfield. Chalobah continued at right-back for the Terriers, impressing in a goalless draw at Reading on Tuesday and coming away from the Luton defeat with credit too.

Matt Miazga was suspended for that Reading match, but returned to the squad for Saturday’s win at Charlton, where he was an unused substitute, and there’s still no Dujon Sterling for troubled Wigan.

Italy

Davide Zappacosta was twice an unused substitute for Roma this week, while Victor Moses is pushing for a return from injury when Inter host Torino on Monday.

Spain

Baba Rahman remains on the sidelines for Mallorca after his latest long-term injury.

Portugal

Lucas Piazon was back from injury for Rio Ave though, playing 25 minutes in a win over Portimonense on Friday, and is now preparing for Monday’s trip to Maritimo.
