In The News: Quite A Lot!

September 10, 2010

It’s been a quiet couple of weeks for us here at TheChels, we’re not ones to get over excited with the overblown hype each time the England team plays, especially due to the rank hypocrisy in the media coverage of their star player and his indiscretions with hookers. At least this time they’re not drawing their pension though. Never mind that Rooney has scored more times off the pitch than…

Squad List Announced

September 1, 2010

With a rather quiet closing of the transfer window, and contrary to many tabloid suggestions otherwise, there were no extra transfers by the club in addition to those of Ramires and Benayoun. Today the club announced the squad list for the forthcoming season, and with Premier League regulations now stating that only 25 players can be named, with eight being ‘home grown’ should the full 25 be named. A home-grown…

The Road To Wembley Starts Here

August 26, 2010

Far be it from us to be presumptuous, but Chelsea and Wembley have been seen together more times in recent years than many celebrity couples. It’s almost become something of a second home, which bodes well going into the coming season. The 2010/11 Champions League Final takes place in HA9 next May, and the road there started in earnest this afternoon with a typically laborious Group Stage Draw. Carlo Ancelotti’s…

In The News: Nico, Neymar & No 7

August 16, 2010

It’s been a few days now since our 6-0 opening day victory over West Brom, and as ever with Chelsea, there’s been plenty to talk about. We start with the news that our French striker, Nicolas Anelka has been banned for 18 international matches, all but ending the 31 year old’s international career. Anelka was sent home from the France World Cup squad for allegedly insulting coach Raymond Domenech during…

Ramires Deal Completed

August 13, 2010

Chelsea FC today announced that they have completed the signing of Ramires from Benfica, for a fee believed to be around £16.3 million. The initial hold up to the deal was due to the third party ownership of Ramires contract, held by one Kia Joorabchian, and understood to be 50% of the value of any sell on clause. Ramires Granted Work Permit

August 12, 2010

News reaches us that Ramires has today been granted a work permit, and the £18 million deal to bring the Brazilian international to Chelsea should be concluded before the weekend. Chelsea have trailed Ramires throughout the close season and once Benfica agreed a fee to sell him to Chelsea, only a work permit stood in the way as Ramires didn’t automatically qualify for one. With the work permit now reportedly…

In The News: Carvalho, Ozil & Madness

August 10, 2010

Some of us thought the omission of Ricardo Carvalho from the Community Shield was odd, considering his fitness and previous appearances, and sadly the reason for that is now clear. A fee of €8 million has been agreed with Real Madrid to instigate the transfer of our Portuguese defender, and re-unite him a third time with mentor, Jose Mourinho. Last season wasn’t one to remember for Carvalho as injury largely…

August 9, 2010

So we kick off with the news that Peter Kenyon has finally left Chelsea, coming less than a year after he stepped down from the position of Chief Executive. With Ron Gourlay now the full time CEO, Kenyon was retained in a non-executive advisory role and it was he who called time on his involvement with the club, in order to focus on other business interests. Chairman Bruce Buck spoke…

Leave Ashley Alone

July 14, 2010

Nasty, evil, vindictive, horrible and hated. Funnily enough I’m not talking about Ashley Cole, but the red top rags that seems intent on driving him out of this country. The worst offender by far is The Sun, who today today stoop to a new low, digging up old school reports on Ashley, in order to ‘show’ what a nasty man he is. Not only is this publication a breach of…
